Shaping the SYREN Legacy

As we embark upon our third decade as SYREN Modern Dance, we are proud that the creative force behind our work continues to be both sustaining and generative.

This year, our programming intentionally honors, nurtures, and celebrates this force by presenting seminal work from 2014 on an international stage, while launching into a brand new project at home.

We rely crucially on the generosity of our supporters to uplift SYREN’s work, both new and ongoing. Your contributions empower the work of our artists, collaborators, and students, and support the day-to-day operations of making the SYREN legacy flourish.

See more of what’s in store for Season 22: 2024-2025 below.
We rely on your contributions to make this programming possible.
We thank you deeply in advance.

With immense gratitude,

Science In Motion NEW WORK created in collaboration with Composer Lauren Cregor and in partnership with Museum of Science-Boston, and NXTHVN.

SYREN has launched a new project that explores today’s most pressing scientific questions through the artistry and physicality of the human body in motion. Through dance, SYREN seeks to embrace momentous innovations in artificial intelligence and neural networks while prodding at the edges of consciousness from within the human mind and body. Central to the journey of this dance is the acceptance – even celebration – of the ways in which Artificial Intelligence (AI) may, in fact, get us even closer to our own humanity. SYREN believes that this journey is a collective one, and aims to empower audiences to actively partake in the process of ingesting and shaping this new technology, and its role in the future of our species.

January through April 2025 will be a momentous next wave of development for this new work! SYREN starts off the year in creative residency at NXTHVN in New Haven, CT. Simultaneously, Composer Lauren Cregor will be completing the score as well as directing the recording process. SYREN will continue rehearsals at home in NYC, and by early April the piece will be completed and ready to share!

Art of Fugue Premiers in Berlin
October 17-18, 2024
In celebration of the 10-year anniversary of its debut, SYREN is thrilled to be partnering with Bach Society Houston to bring The Art of Fugue to the magnificent Marienkirche in Berlin, Germany. Once called “the most sensuous Bach experience ever”, The Art of Fugue explores themes and definitions of beauty, and the persistent human search for its existence in dark circumstances. Over the past decade, the SYREN dancers have swept through sacred spaces with the resounding splendor of Bach’s fugues ringing in the background, and The Art of Fugue has emerged as a recognizable cornerstone of SYREN’s repertory.

Your continued support is critical to making this season a resounding success.
